At Ocean Cure, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the freedom and beauty of the beach. Our free Beach Wheelchair Rental program provides individuals with mobility challenges access to specialized beach wheelchairs designed to navigate sand and even enter the water safely. Whether you're planning a relaxing day with family or hoping to feel the ocean waves again, our team is here to help make that possible.
Reservations are simple and completely free. Participants can reserve a beach wheelchair online to ensure equipment availability during their visit. Through the support of volunteers, donors, and community partners, Ocean Cure continues to remove barriers and create life-changing coastal experiences for individuals and families across the region.
Adaptive Surfing
Adaptive Surfing with Ocean Cure is far more than surfing — it’s about healing, confidence, freedom, and reconnecting with life through the power of the ocean. Designed for individuals facing physical, emotional, or life-altering challenges such as spinal cord injuries, PTSD, military-related injuries, and other disabilities, these activities provide a safe and supportive environment to experience the therapeutic benefits of the water.
Our trained volunteers, adaptive surf instructors, and community partners work with participants to create an unforgettable experience tailored to every individual’s needs and abilities. From catching a first wave to simply reconnecting with the ocean, each outing is built around encouragement, empowerment, and possibility.
For more than a decade, Ocean Cure has helped participants and their families discover that there is no obstacle too great to overcome.
Beach Walker Rentals
Getting across deep sand can be difficult for many individuals with limited mobility. Ocean Cure’s free Beach Walker Rental program helps make the shoreline more accessible by providing specialized beach walkers designed specifically for sandy terrain. These adaptive walkers offer greater stability and mobility, allowing users to enjoy more independence and confidence while spending time at the beach.
Like our beach wheelchairs, beach walkers are available at no cost and can be reserved online in advance. Whether it’s a walk with family, watching the sunrise, or simply enjoying the salt air, Ocean Cure is committed to ensuring everyone has the opportunity to experience the beach comfortably and safely.
Beach Mats
Ocean Cure’s Beach Mats help create safer and more accessible pathways across the sand for wheelchairs, walkers, strollers, and individuals with mobility challenges. Installed at multiple beach access points throughout Carolina Beach, these mats significantly improve access to the shoreline and allow more people to enjoy the beach with greater independence and ease.
Each mat is installed, maintained, and cared for entirely by dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly throughout the season to keep the pathways safe and accessible for the community. Because beach conditions can change rapidly, mats are seasonal and may be temporarily removed during severe weather or substantial storms to protect equipment and ensure public safety.
Through these efforts, Ocean Cure continues to help make Carolina Beach one of the most accessible beach destinations on the East Coast.
